Pionero en la música electrónica ambiental-espacial, Steve Roach es uno de los más influyentes artistas contemporáneos de renombre internacional.


Comenzó a tocar los sintetizadores a los 20 años, atraído por los sonidos de la escuela germana de Tangerine Dream y Klaus Schulze.
Si bien en sus inicios su música se caracterizaba por las secuencias polirrítmicas, a lo largo del tiempo su estilo ha ido derivando hacia la música espacial, el ambient clásico y hacia los sonidos más orgánicos del tribal ambient, de quien se considera uno de los principales fundadores.
Finalmente, algunos de sus trabajos pueden catalogarse bajo la etiqueta de dark ambient.
